This bay is where the little river of Taipivai (name of the village and the valley) flows into the Pacific Ocean. There areonly a few houses around the bay, so there is a soft lighting by night as lots of planktons makethe water phosphorescent.Fishes leave white trails in every sense such as shooting stars and the big manta rays print their shapes and wakes too.
It’s an exquisite and impressive show!
It is in Taipivai village, Herman Melville, an American sailor and writer of Moby Dick novel, spent 6 months with Typee natives’ tribe and its ferocious warriors.
Melville also wrote Typee and Omoo, classics novels which enable an excellent way to get closer of Marquesas life before colonization
Day 4 to Day 6 : Ua Huka, The Horses island

Possible lunch ashore, in Hane, at Céline Fournier’s restaurant (non-contractual, not included)
Swimming (only in calm weather)
Ua Huka is 31 miles East from Nuku Hiva (50km). It is certainly the most disorienting island of north Marquesas. As vegetation is less abundant than it is on nearby islands, there are huge wildernesses for goats and wild horses.
Its welcoming inhabitants are gathered on South shore, in Vaipaee, Hane and Hokatu villages. Each one of them has an artisanal exhibition center. An arboretum and two museums are Ua Huka’s justified sources of pride
